Disguised remuneration

Schemes that pay employment income via non-cash routes to avoid tax — heavily challenged by HMRC.

Disguised remuneration covers any arrangement that pays employment income via routes designed to avoid PAYE/NI — typically loans, trusts, or shares. HMRC has aggressively challenged these, leading to the Loan Charge (back-tax on outstanding loans) for past schemes.
