Why us

What you get with MyTaxFile

MTD-compliant software included

FreeAgent or similar — we set it up, link to your bank, train you on what to enter. £15/month covers the licence and quarterly submissions.

Quarterly submissions filed for you

Four updates per year + a final declaration. We compile and file each one via HMRC's MTD API. You just keep records up to date in the app.

Bundled saves money

On Compliance (£799/yr) and Business (£1,499/yr) packages, MTD software + submissions are included — no separate bill.

Avoid the late-filing penalties

New points-based penalty system: 4 missed quarters = a £200 fine, plus interest. We chase you before each deadline so you don't hit penalty points.

Get ahead now, save panic later

Most landlords and sole traders are leaving this to the last minute. Setting up 6 months early means smooth onboarding, not April 2026 chaos.

Honest answers

Frequently asked

When does MTD for Income Tax start?
April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with combined gross income over £50,000. April 2027 for those over £30,000. Below £30k there's no current MTD requirement (this could change).
Is "income" the gross or the profit?
Gross — i.e. total turnover from self-employment plus total rent received, before expenses. So a sole trader with £45k turnover and £20k expenses still falls into MTD because gross is £45k.
Can I just keep using a spreadsheet?
Only if you use bridging software that submits the spreadsheet via the MTD API. Pure manual spreadsheets won't work. We strongly recommend FreeAgent or similar — easier and the licence is included in our £15/month.
What if I miss a quarterly submission?
New points-based penalty system: each missed return is one point, 4 points = a £200 fine. Then £200 per subsequent miss until you've cleared the points. We track all your deadlines.
Does MTD replace Self Assessment?
For sole traders and landlords inside MTD, yes — the four quarterly Updates plus the Final Declaration replace the annual SA100. If you have other income types (dividends, foreign, capital gains) you'll still file the relevant SA pages too.
