Offsetting

Using a loss in one area to reduce taxable income elsewhere.

Offsetting in UK tax means using a loss or relief to reduce taxable income/gains. Examples: trading losses against general income (sole traders), capital losses against gains, EIS loss relief against income, group relief between Ltd companies.
