Reasonable excuse

Genuine reason for missing a tax deadline — can waive penalties.

A reasonable excuse can get HMRC penalties waived. Accepted: serious illness, bereavement, IT failure, postal delays, unexpected emergencies. Not accepted: not getting a reminder, finding the forms confusing, or "I forgot".
