Accountant

A qualified professional who prepares accounts, files tax returns, and gives financial advice.

An accountant is a qualified professional trained to prepare and audit financial accounts, calculate and file tax returns, and advise on financial decisions. In the UK, the main qualifications are ACA (ICAEW), ACCA, and AAT — all regulated, with strict CPD and ethics rules.

You don't legally need an accountant to file Self Assessment, but most people who use one save more in tax than the fee costs.
